Tall ships visit Ventura

Tall Ships sailed into Ventura today.

The Hawaiian Chieftain and Lady Washington are on an annual voyage along the California coast.

They stop in ports and harbors for historical and education tours.

For the next two weeks the sailors will call the Ventura Harbor home.

The historical vessels are docking in front of Brophy Brothers Restaurant & Clam Bar and Milano’s Italian Restaurant in the Ventura Harbor Village.

The visit coincides with this weekend’s Civil War Military Camp.

The First Company Washington Artillery of New Orleans will show off a living history replica military camp from 1861 – 1865.

Visitors will be invited to see musket and pistol demonstrations, cannons, and live music on the Ventura Harbor Village Main Lawn.

Soldiers dressed in period uniforms will engage the Tall Ships by shooting cannons as the Tall Ships depart for Battle and Adventure Sails.

There are also Dockside Tours Tuesday through Sunday.

Grays Harbor Historical Seaport recommends a $3 donation for Dockside Tours.

These ships host more than 15,000 school children a year.

Educators may contact the Historical Seaport education office at 360-589-2299 to make arrangements for programs.
