Ventura police arrest man on suspicion of burglary, assault of police officer

VENTURA, Calif. -- Ventura police arrested one man on suspicion of burglary, assault on a police officer and resisting arrest late Sunday night.

On Sunday at around 11:18 p.m., Ventura police responded to an alarm call at a power storage at 1661 South Victoria Avenue in Ventura.

Police officers along with a police dog arrived on scene of the alarm call.

At arrival, officers found the business closed but the front glass door had been smashed.

While officers were checking inside the business, one officer saw a person on a bike near the business. The officer spotted a tool in the man's possession that is said to be commonly used for burglaries.

The man was later identified as Vigil Dimas Rodriguez, 31, a transient in the Ventura area.

Officers commanded Rodriguez to stop but Rodriguez ignored the commands and physically resisted officers as they detained him.

Rodriguez was taken into custody and police say he was found to be in possession of property stolen from the power storage business.

Rodriguez was arrested for commercial burglary, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest, and battery on a peace officer. 

Police say no additional suspect were located on scene.
