Fourth inmate at Lompoc prison dies from COVID-19
LOMPOC, Calif. - The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) announced on Monday that a fourth inmate from the Lompoc prison complex has died after testing positive for COVID-19.
56-year-old Daniel Lee Vadnais tested positive for the virus on May 2 at the Federal Correctional Institute (FCI) in Lompoc.
The BOP said medical staff at the institution monitored and treated his condition. However, on May 6, his condition declined and Vadnais was transported to a local hospital for a rapid pulse and difficulty breathing. He was placed on a ventilator two days later.
The BOP said Vadnais was pronounced dead by medical staff on June 1.
Vadnais had been sentenced in the Eastern District of Washington to a 108-month sentence for Receipt of Child Pornography. He had been in custody at the FCI Lompoc since August 23, 2019.
There have been three prior deaths at the Lompoc prison complex since the COVID-19 outbreak started.
