UCSB pitcher Zach Torra honored as All-American

UC SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UCSB junior pitcher Zach Torra has been named to the 2020 Collegiate Baseball Division I All-American Third Team, the publication announced Tuesday. The Santa Ynez, Calif. native posted a 3-0 record with a 0.36 earned run average in four starts across the shortened season in which the Gauchos were off to a hot 13-2 start.
Torra was just getting started on an incredible statistical campaign. Over 25.1 innings pitched, the southpaw held opponents scoreless in three of his four appearances, and opponents batted a dismal .133 against him. Torra surrendered only one earned run while striking out 39 of 83 batters faced. One of his best performances of the season came on Feb. 29, when Torra struck out 12 batters and allowed no runs on only one hit in seven innings.
After winning a CIF title at Santa Ynez High in 2014, Torra was named All-Area Pitcher of the Year. He went on to play college ball at Santa Barbara City College, Hancock College, and Cuesta College, where he had 84 strikeouts over 80.2 innings before transferring to UC Santa Barbara for 2019-20.
Torra is the seventh Gaucho All-American during the Andrew Checketts era.
