Royals lose to Ventura in straight sets

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) -

St. Bonaventure 3, Bishop Diego 0: Cardinals junior Karina Urzua tallied 22 kills and 18 digs in three-set loss 21-25, 22-25, 19-25.

Karina Urzua is averaging 18 kills a match for the Cardinals this year. Entenza Design).

Bishop Diego is 7-4 in the Tri-Valley League , good for a third place tie with Laguna Blanca.

Laguna Blanca 3, Thacher 0: The Owls swept 25-14, 25-17, 25-19. Marritt Blabey led the way with 9 kills and 6 aces.

Santa Barbara 3, Buena 0: Kira Elliott had 15 kills in a Dons sweep on the road. Jules Horton dished out 34 assists and added 9 digs for Santa Barbara who are tied for first place in the Channel League with Ventura.

Ventura 3, San Marcos 0: The Royals battled but came up short to Channel League co-leader Ventura 17-25, 19-25, 20-25.

Dos Pueblos 3, Pacifica 0: The Chargers are undefeated in Pacific View League play at 7-0 winning 26-24, 25-14, 25-3.

The Chargers saved their biggest fireworks for the third set, when setter Allie Ben-Yaacov went on an incredible 24-point service run as DP rolled to a 25-3 win. Ben-Yaacov finished the match with 10 aces and 31 assists.
“When Allie got to her 13th serve, I think we all started realizing something special was happening,” Curry said. “Then came 14, 15, 16, and the team just kept rallying behind her. It wasn’t only Allie serving incredibly well. Everyone was fighting to keep Pacifica from scoring and then capitalizing every time the ball came back to our side.”

Carpinteria 3, Santa Paula 1: Cora Nimmons led the Warriors offense with 20 kills and 31 digs.
