Allan Hancock College offers free Thanksgiving meals to single-parent students

SANTA MARIA, Calif. -- Allan Hancock College will be providing free meals to 55 single-parent students on Tuesday in Santa Maria.

The Annual Care Turkey Fest is provided by Allan Hancock's Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) program. This will be the eleventh year that CARE has hosted Turkey Fest.

55 single-parents will receive free turkey and other Thanksgiving items including turkey, potatoes, beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, stuffing, pumpkin pie, whipped cream and butter.

Hancock faculty and staff paid for the Thanksgiving feasts.

The CARE program provides support services for single parents who attend Allan Hancock College.

Services they offer include tutoring, academic counseling, computer access and even a play area for their children.

Care also works with Hancock's Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS), a state-funded program designed to provide financial assistance, support and encouragement for low-income students.

The event will go from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
