OXNARD, Calif. - The Ventura County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help after an Oxnard was shot and killed in El Rio in January.

On Jan. 11, deputies responded to the 2700 block of Alvarado Street in El Rio just after 12:30 a.m.

The sheriff's office says 21-year-old Pete Mendez of Oxnard was traveling in a car on Alvarado Street when he was fatally shot by someone in another car.

Investigators haven't established a motive yet, but the shooting may have been gang-related.
