Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputies investigate deadly shooting

OXNARD, Calif. - The Ventura County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of shots fired in the unincorporated area of El Rio early Saturday morning.

Deputies arrived at the 2700 block of Alvarado Street in Oxnard around 12:38 a.m. There they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was treated by emergency medical personnel and transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The victim is described as a Hispanic male, 21 years old, from Oxnard.

So far, the investigation has determined that the victim was traveling north in a car along Alvarado Street when the occupant of another car shot a firearm. The bullet then struck the victim's vehicle and the victim.

Deputies do not yet know if this crime is gang-related.
