Beach Hazards Statement issued October 6 at 1:32PM PDT until October 7 at 6:00AM PDT by NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA

* WHAT…For the Beach Hazards Statement, dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf expected. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, minor to locally moderate coastal flooding with elevated surf and dangerous rip currents expected. * WHERE…Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Ventura County Beaches, Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches. * WHEN…For the Beach Hazards Statement, through 6 AM Wednesday. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, from 6 AM Wednesday to 11 PM PDT Friday. * IMPACTS…Moderate flooding of sea water is likely over some vulnerable low-lying coastal areas, especially around the time of high tide, including over beach parking lots, bike paths, and harbor walkways. Moderate beach erosion is likely. Isolated damage is unlikely but possible in most vulnerable areas. There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Areas of most concern regarding coastal flooding impacts are Long Beach (especially Alamitos Peninsula), Catalina Island (through early Wednesday morning with the south- southeast swell), and Malibu.
Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. Do
NOT drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.

Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or
stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly
in such conditions, stay off the rocks.
