Music Academy Breaks Ground on New Downtown Education Center in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) — Downtown Santa Barbara is getting a new space where young musicians can develop their talents and share their music.

The Music Academy is moving forward on a new education and performance center called 'The Muse' at 901 State Street.

The project will bring music lessons, rehearsals and performances to one of the city’s busiest corridors.

Plans include practice rooms, teaching studios, a rooftop terrace and a performance space for audiences of up to 200 people.

The expansion will give the Music Academy another location beyond its Montecito campus while opening more opportunities for local students to participate in music programs.

The building will also support the Academy’s Sing! youth choir and Lehrer Vocal Institute.

A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for October 15th from 5 to 6 p.m. at the downtown site. The public is welcome to attend.

The center is expected to open in 2028.
