Oxnard Shooting Victim Identified

Oxnard police found Diego Espinoza wounded by a gunshot Monday night.

The 18-year-old had been shot in the left knee. Investigators said it happened around 9 p.m. in the walkway north of Eliza Court.

Even though St. John’s hospital is a block away, the Oxnard teen was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, the counties trauma center.

Witnesses saw a suspicious vehicle in the area. This is the third night of shootings in Oxnard’s La Colonia neighborhood in November. Police said 25-year-old Ricardo Silva was shot to death November 12 near Colonia Road and McKinley Ave. There have been 11 murders in Oxnard this year, and many remain under investigation.

Monday night, police met with about 40 residents to share their concerns about what could be gang related violence.

Anyone with information is urged to call Detective Jeff Long at 805-486-6506. People who wish to remain anonymous may call the violent crimes hotline at 805- 982-7070 or Ventura County Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
