UCSB Purchases Isla Vista Housing Properties

UC Santa Barbara’s student housing has grown with the recent acquisition of the Tropicana housing portfolio in Isla Vista.

The portfolio is composed of three properties that include, the Tropicana Gardens, Tropicana Del Norte, and the Tropicana Villas.

The university purchased the properties with the goal of improving the living experience for a large number of UCSB students and the surrounding community.

The Tropicana portfolio is 200,000 square feet of space currently providing housing to 1,050 students.

UCSB assures that the acquisition comes as community members, students, and trustees have asked the university to play a more active role in Isla Vista.

In the past year, UCSB has contributed money towards infrastructure improvement projects such as better street lighting and fencing along the bluffs.
