Ventura County closes schools amidst Maria Fire

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. -- Ventura County Office of Education will be closing schools due to poor air quality and safety on Friday. 

With the Maria Fire growing overnight to around 8,000 acres, Ventura County decides to their close Friday classes. 

The following school districts will not be having class today: 

• • Briggs School District• HuenemeElementary School District• Mesa Union School District• MupuSchool District• Ocean View School District• Oxnard School District (K-8)• Oxnard Union High School District• Pleasant Valley School District• Rio School District• Santa Clara Elementary School District• Santa Paula Unified School District

 Charter schools that will also be closing their doors are: 

• • ACE (Camarillo)• River Oaks Academy Resource Center (Oxnard Only)• University Preparation (Camarillo)
