Housing Program Helps Local Couple Build Path to Independence

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - After years of working toward stability, a Santa Barbara couple is celebrating new independence.

It hasn’t been an easy road for the Santa Barbara couple.

Through the Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara’s Family Self-Sufficiency program, families learn to save, budget, and plan for long-term goals. The effort is designed to move participants from public assistance toward financial stability, with many working toward owning a home.

Program leaders describe a growing need for guidance as families navigate the region’s high cost of living, working to give participants tools to stay on track and build long-term security.

Team leaders hope the program continues expanding support as costs remain high across Santa Barbara. By learning to manage money and stay focused on long-term goals, families are turning short-term help into lasting independence.

For this couple, the future they have worked toward for years is finally beginning to take shape.
