State Route 1 temporarily shut down in front of Vandenberg Space Force Base for suspicious vehicle investigation

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – State Route 1 was closed earlier today between California Boulevard and Timberlane Lane, directly in front of the main gate of Vandenberg Space Force Base, for a military-led investigation of a suspicious vehicle in the area.

According to Vandenberg Space Force Base, security personnel responded to a suspicious vehicle near the Santa Maria Gate around 10:10 a.m. Friday morning.

One person was detained for questioning added Vandenberg Space Force Base.

A military working dog team alongside members of the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron Explosive Ordinance Disposal team searched the involved vehicle and area, but no threats nor explosives were detected noted Vandenberg Space Force Base.

The military installation shared around 2:25 p.m. Friday, that the main gate and State Route 1 have reopened and base operations will continue as normal.
