Woman dies after car crashes into tree off HWY 101 in Summerland

SUMMERLAND, Calif. - A woman was killed in a crash off Highway 101 in Summerland Friday evening.

California Highway Patrol, Carpinteria-Summerland Fire and AMR responded to the crash around 6:35 p.m. in the northbound lanes above Padaro Lane.

CHP said the vehicle involved crashed into a tree.

Firefighters determined the driver, identified only as a woman, had died at the scene. No other people or vehicles were involved in the crash.

Officials instated a hard closure of the right lane of the northbound freeway around 6:50 p.m. while crews responded. Caltrans reported the freeway was fully reopened around 9:50 p.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by CHP.
