Man dies after two-vehicle crash on southbound Highway 101 Monday evening

VENTURA, Calif. (KEYT) – A man has died after a fatal collision on southbound Highway 101 Monday evening.

The driver's identification is pending notification of his next of kin shared the California Highway Patrol-Ventura Area (CHP) in a press release Tuesday.

On June 8, at 10:54 p.m., dispatchers began receiving multiple calls regarding a two-vehicle collision on southbound Highway 101, north of California Street stated the CHP.

Arriving first responders found a tan 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe west of the highway in an embankment and an unresponsive male driver was located inside detailed the CHP.

After an assessment of the driver by medical responders, he was declared dead at the scene at 11:15 p.m. noted the CHP.

An initial investigation shows that the Tahoe was traveling in the number 1 lane of southbound Highway 101 at a high rate of speed when, for reasons still under investigation, it veered to the right and towards the embankment explained the CHP.

According to the CHP, the Tahoe sideswiped a Volvo SUV before continuing into the embankment and crashing into trees before coming to rest west of the roadway.

This fatal incident remains under investigation and it is not currently known if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash shared the CHP.

A heavy-duty tow truck was called to the scene due to the location and surrounding terrain and two lanes of southbound Highway 101 remained closed for around six hours during the recovery and investigation of the scene stated the CHP.
