Day of the Dead Altar lines steps in Oxnard

Day of the Dead Altar fills steps of Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard

OXNARD, California, (KEYT) Organizers of one of the oldest Dia De Los Muertos events in downtown Oxnard were relieved to see that rain and wind didn't damage work underway on the altar.

Crews spent the day finishing the ofrenda at the entrance to the Carnegie Art Museum.

The museum hasn't been opened to the public in years, but the steps are used for the altar.

The altar includes photos of community leaders who have passed away and will be in place through November 3.

Oxnard Cultural and Community Services Recreation Analyst Diana Reyes had a pin of late labor leader Dolores Huerta on her hat, but said her photo would not be added to the altar until next year.

It is tradition to wait until the first year after someone has passed before adding the newly deceased person's photo to the ofrenda.

People are welcome to stop by and take photos .
