City of San Luis Obispo creates memorial to remember SLO CA detective killed on duty

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - As the community continues to process all that has happened since the deadly shooting that killed San Luis Obispo Police detective Luca Benedetti on Monday, the City decided to put together a memorial at City Hall so that everyone can show their support.

Crews spent Friday morning putting up lights, a banner and decorated the memorial with red and blue ribbons.

Throughout the week, people are invited to come and hang notes, cards and gifts on a wall as a way to express their thoughts for the family of detective Benedetti.

Many long-time residents are pleased the city is helping to bring the community together during this difficult time.

"I have lived in SLO since 1966 and it’s terrible to see something like that ... I think it’s always nice to see that people are concerned as this is a terrible thing, and it’s nice that people are showing their feelings about it," said resident Al Lapins of San Luis Obispo.

The funeral for detective Benedetti is set for next Thursday.
