Sewage spill closes East Beach at Sycamore Creek

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif.– East Beach is closed to the public due to a sewage spill in Sycamore Creek, according to the Santa Barbara Public Health Department.

The beach is within a quarter mile of the sewage spill response at Sycamore Creek.

Public officials reported the spill was caused by a broken sewer pipe strained during the recent storm spanning Sycamore Creek at East Mason Street. The pipe was repaired yesterday and has city officials working to target contaminated areas.

Officials believe it has been leaking since Jan. 9, but exact date of the start of the leak is unclear.

Contact with contaminated water in any capacity can cause severe sickness. Please adhere to all sign postage and public health warnings.
