SANTA YNEZ, Calif. - The Chumash Casino and Resort plans to reopen its doors in June.

The casino has announced it plans on reopening at noon on June 10.

By that time, the casino will have been closed for nearly 13 weeks.

According to a press release from the tribe and the casino, the gaming floor will have reduced seating and protective barriers between slot machines. Table games dealers will also be separated from patrons by these protective barriers. The food court will feature reduced seating.

“From temperature checks to enhanced cleaning schedules, to plexiglass barriers between slot machines and separating table games patrons, to requiring guests and employees to wear masks. When we resume operations, we'll be ready to welcome guests back with safety measures to help protect them while they're here,” said Kenneth Kahn, Tribal Chairman of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians.

Bingo sessions, the Poker Room, the restaurant Willows, The Café, The Buffet and The Spa will remain closed for the time being.

The Chumash Tribe's other properties -- Hotel Corque, Hadsten House, Root 246 restaurant and the Kitá Wines tasting room -- will remain temporarily closed, the tribe said.

When casino employees return to work, they will all receive training on COVID-19 safety and sanitation protocols with more comprehensive training for those who interact frequently with guests, the tribe said. Employees will also have personal protective equipment and wil receive temperature checks.

Guests will also be screened prior to being allowed into the casino. Guests will also be required to wear face masks and practice social distancing.

“By securing high-tech equipment, implementing strict safety procedures and working closely with the state to determine a sensible reopen date, we believe we’ve met the challenge of creating a safe environment under the current conditions,” Kahn said.

The reopening comes as California moves into Stage 3 of the state's reopening plan. This latest stage allows for some higher-risk workplaces to reopen. For a complete breakdown of California's reopening plan, visit the state's Resilience Roadmap online.
