19-year-old arrested for reckless driving after speed chase with SLO Police
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.– A 19-year-old Paso Robles man was arrested for reckless driving, assault with a deadly weapon, and evading arrest after a police chase with San Luis Obispo Police officers.
According to the San Luis Obispo Police Department report, the 19-year-old was speeding down Higuera Street around 5:30 a.m. in a Maroon Ford F150 truck when law enforcement attempted to stop the truck in the 700 block of Higuera.
A brief police chase ensued after the driver failed to stop leading to a parking lot in the 3500 block of Broad Street. The driver then drove head on towards pursuing police.
No officers were hit or injured but decided to shortly end the pursuit to minimize bodily harm to officers.
By 6:18 a.m. Cal Poly Police responded to a wrong-way driver that crashed into a fire hydrant and tree in a red Ford Branco on Higuera Street.
Law enforcement determined the driver of both the Branco and F150 truck were the same in an investigation that connected items found in the parked F150 by SLO PD as belongings of the Branco driver detained by Cal Poly Police.
San Luis Obispo Police also determined both cars were owed by family members of the driver.
The 19-year-old was subsequently booked into SLO County Jail.
