Risa August returns to the Central Coast to finish her journey

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- (KEYT) Risa August, an inspirational speaker, cyclist and author, stopped by your morning news to speak about her inspirational journey.

August set out several years ago to bike from Canada to Mexico, but near the end, a wildfire closed the road between Gaviota and Santa Barbara. This forced August to bypass around 30 miles of the route.

Now, she will be returning to finish that stretch on October 4th along with a newly graduated UCLA film team.

The film crew will be working with August on a documentary called "The Final Thirty," following not just the ride, but also the idea of finishing something you started and getting closure.

August is also the author of the award-winning memoir and screenplay "The Road Unpaved: Border to Border with a Brain Tumor and a Bike," which tells the story of her original journey.
