Santa Barbara businesses honored for helping those with disabilities

People and businesses that have helped those with disabilities were honored at Santa Barbara’s 14th annual Mayor’s Awards Wednesday morning.

The Santa Barbara Zoo received the “Non-Profit Award” for its spirit of inclusion and accessibility. It is the first zoo on the west coast to become a certified Autism Center.

Buena Tool Company was honored with the “Outstanding Effort Award” for going above and beyond to support people with disabilities.

Karl Storz Imaging received the “Employment/Accommodation Award” for reflecting the spirit of the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Kruger Bensen Ziemer Architects was honored with the “Design/Accessibility Award” for developing innovative and creative solutions for accessible buildings.

The event was held in October because Congress designated the month as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
