Ryan Teixeira honored at Arroyo Grande High School

Thousands showed up at Arroyo Grande High School Sunday afternoon to honor Ryan Teixeira.

The 20-year-old all star baseball player died March 4 from complications after receiving a bone marrow transplant. Teixeira was well known across the Central Coast after he beat cancer his senior year of high school, only for it to return in a different form less than two years later.

Friends and family traveled from all over the country for the memorial, including the entire Colorado Mesa University baseball team, where Teixeira had earned an athletic scholarship.

Following his death, the school retired his number 17 jersey. He will be the last baseball player to ever wear number 17.
