Students Host Memorial Paddle Out
About 2,000 students headed to the beach with surfboards, boogie boards and rafts to take part in a memorial paddle out.
They formed a circle in the ocean and held hands, splashed and chanted.
Organizers moved the memorial to the coast near the University of California Santa Barbara Lagoon to handle the big turn-out.
Hundreds of other students and alumni watched from the beach and bluffs.
Participants said it helped clear their mind after days of stress and anger in the aftermath of the Isa Vista rampage that left six classmates dead Friday.
Many surfers said they were going to graduate and they wanted this to be their lasting memory of the saddest event during their years at UCSB.
