More People Sue After Isla Vista Balcony Collapse

It was nearly one year ago when a balcony collapsed during the Isla Vista street party Deltopia.

The balcony packed with people, on the 6600 block of Del Playa Drive, fell on dozens of partiers below, injuring some.

There are now four people suing the property management company Wolfe and Associates and the out-of-state owners.

Attorney Robert Clayton told NewsChannel 3 the full amount hasn’t been determined yet because medical expenses continue to add up. He said it is well into the six figures.

NewsChannel 3 reached out to Ron Wolfe of Wolfe and Associates but have not heard back as of Wednesday afternoon.

Clayton said he found evidence showing the property managers knew the balcony had issues before it collapsed.

“Clearly the owners and managers knew there was a problem with termites and wood rot at this particular property, more specifically in the deck that collapsed, for at least five to six years before the incident occurred. There had been recommendations made by termite companies that tent and fumigate the property. That was never done,” he said.

Some of the injuries include a fractured pelvis, vertebrae and leg.

Two of the people involved already have had multiple surgeries.
