California Avocado Festival Serves up Food and Music
Haas, Reed, Daily, Macarthur are just some of the avocado varieties for sale at the 27th annual California Avocado Festival this weekend in Carpinteria.
Growers from Rancho Santa Cecilia Marquez Family Farm in Carpinteria are on hand to describe their differences. Some are oily, others buttery, The largest avocado variety is Daily, weighing in at several pounds each.
The festival celebrates the state’s avocado industry and other local businesses.
The event is also run by a non-profit that helps other non-profits and student groups raise money.
Festival-goers will find Carpinteria High student groups selling everything from guacamole to brownies with avocado in the batter.
They won’t find regular trash cans because organizers pride themselves on zero waste.
Live music will be offered on four stages along Linden Avenue. Many of the bands, including Hard Six, are from central coast.
In addition to”Peace Love and Guacamole” t-shirts, people can buy raffle tickets. Among the prizes is an avocado-themed surfboard.
