Bike rally results in 76 tickets
76 tickets were issued in Santa Barbara Sunday during the annual Fiesta Bike Ride.
The event drew a crowd estimated in excess of 2000.
The ride has been going on for years, but it is not an official event with Old Spanish Days.
Santa Barbara Police assigned officers at several points along the route which started at Stearns Wharf.
Those who did not follow the rules of the road were stopped and cited.
“We had about 20 officers assigned to the monitor the event. They wound up issuing about 64 traffic citations, and 12 municipal code citations,” said Sgt. Riley Harwood.
Police added extra officers to this event because of blocked intersections last year and complaints from drivers.
This year, even with the tickets issues, Harwood said the majority of the riders obeyed the law.
