Holocaust Survivor Dies
A local holocaust survivor who spread tolerance by telling his story has died.Camarillo resident Charles Pierce survived six years in five Nazi concentration camps including Auschwitz and Dachau.He survived the selections by Dr. Mengele.He was rescued by the 20th Armored Division “The Liberators” who halted their tank when they saw him standing emaciated in the middle of a road.At the request of a granddaughter, Pierce started sharing his story at schools and special events.Schools will still be able to learn about his extraordinary life thanks to a documentary completed before Pierce died of natural causes on Wednesday.The documentary is named “B1719” after the number the Nazis tattooed on his arm.Pierce would have turned 92 next week.To learn more about his story log onto www.thesurvivalstation.com.
