Oxnard High School grads wore the same cardinal red caps and gowns to be more inclusive

Oxnard High School graduates used to wear cardinal red and gold caps and gowns, but this year all of the students wore cardinal red to be more inclusive.

The students graduated during the same week of the first ever OHS Pride event on campus.

Class of 2018 speakers included 3 valedictorians, 2 class officers, and students chosen for writing outstanding essays about their academic careers.

The class officers told their classmates to “lead with love” and “dream big.”

Some students will be headed to the University of California, Santa Barbara on full-ride scholarships.

Educators said 529 students picked up diplomas, but Oxnard High far from the largest graduating class in the district.

Pacifica High had more than 700 grads. The Oxnard Union High School District plans to build another high school to reduce overcrowding.
