Industrial Park To Be Built On 40-Acre Parcel in Lompoc

Lompoc announced development plans for a 40-acre parcel of land. A new business and industrial park is slated to be built in the area.

“We’ve been working on this, getting this coming forward for a year and a half, and here we are,” says Lompoc Mayor John Linn.

The industrial park will include 8,000 square feet of buildings. The hope is that it will bring somewhere around 1,000 to 3,000 jobs once tenants move in.

Mayor Linn says nearly 6,000 Lompoc residents commute out of town for their job. He hopes this changes that.

“It provides an opportunity for those people to be employed here in town as well as the unemployed folks locally to get a job and have a lot better life,” says Linn.

With the poor economy in recent years, industrial development has been minimal here on the Central Coast. This project is hoping to continue a trend in Lompoc, with more businesses moving in and calling this city their home.

Dental product manufacturer DenMat recently moved from Santa Maria to Lompoc. Several new industrial buildings with wine and agriculture tenants have popped up in the last year.

Broker Tom Davidson says Lompoc is all of a sudden becoming a viable destination for many companies.

“The city of Lompoc has certainly changed its attitude in the last few years and is very accomodating and very helpful in trying to help people bring businesses,” says Davidson.

Davidson has already received interest from prospective tenants. He was unable to say who, but with groundbreaking potentially a year away, it won’t be long before we find out.

The project is in the middle of an environmental review right now. Once that’s done it will go to the planning commission in the next 4 to 6 months. Groundbreaking is expected sometime between summer and fall next year.
