Local Growers Learn New Methods
Dozens of vegetable growers from the Santa Maria Valley attended an annual vegetable meeting Tuesday. One of the topics: better irrigation methods.
Every year University of California professionals host the meeting to inform growers of new techniques to keep healthy crops.
Growers tell NewsChannel 3 that on a daily basis they face several obstacles, including pests, rot, diseases and over or under watering.
A majority of growers take the methods taught at the meetings and use it.
“One thing we have to improve on is the water techniques, proper water, engineering the proper field for the proper setup using the right kind of drip and just better practice. Keep the water on the field. Don’t let it leave your ranch,” said vegetable grower Vincent Barajas.
