Santa Maria residents raise concern over minor league team
The city of Santa Maria is in the talking stages of welcoming a minor league baseball team to one of the cities larger baseball fields. Elk fields is located in the middle of town and used by hundreds of kids.
Tuesday afternoon the Santa Maria Parks and Recreation Commission heard public comment from concerned residents. Parents and little league representatives voiced their opinions over whether the minor league team would take access away from their children, who use the field nearly everyday.
Several investors also attended the public hearing to share their proposal. They group of investors assured commissioners and residents that they would do everything possible to find a middle and address any concerns from residents. Investors said they chose Santa Maria for their team because of the rich history it has in baseball. They want to make this team part of the community, so that everyone can enjoy it.
The city has not made a decision as of now, but they do plan on continuing the consideration and would like to see both sides find a middle.
