Firefighters Test New Life Saving Technique
Flames, smoke and a response that included wind from a large fan were part of a drill by the Santa Barbara City Fire Department. The response tested ways to inject air from ground fans into a burning structure to help clear out the smoke, while crews douse the flames with water. In cases where it can be used, and if someone is trapped inside, it can get fresh air into the structure, faster, and possibly save a life. It’s especially important if someone has collapsed on the ground and losing oxygen fast.Several different engine companies with Santa Barbara City Fire, took part in the drill in a wooden structure they built to resemble a small house, near their training tower.
