SLO Board of Supervisors discuss $5 million budget shortfall

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The San Luis Obispo Board of Supervisors discussed a $5,000,000 budget shortfall at its Tuesday meeting.

County officials expect the next fiscal year’s general fund expenses to outpace incoming revenue.

Tuesday, the supervisors reviewed the next fiscal year’s budget goals and policies, budget balancing strategies, and priorities.

The budget shortfall was first announced last month while county officials presented a financial forecast.

“We are required to have a balanced budget, and we start by trying to predict what might happen in the future based on what we know today,” said County Budget Director Emily Jackson. “We also want our local communities to be aware of the challenges we might face.”
