The region will dry out Tuesday, but high surf remains

Conditions are finally drying out Tuesday after an extended period of wet weather. Temperatures will stay roughly the same, and possibly increase a degree or two. Highs will be 8 to 12 degrees below normal in the mid 50s to low 60s.

A ridge of high pressure will nudge into California. Skies will clear out to present a beautiful, sunny day. With strong pressure gradients, the morning may be a bit on the breezy to windy side.

High surf and coastal flood advisories remain in effect for all beach areas through 10:00 pm Wednesday, with the exception of the surf advisory on the South Coast expiring at 10:00 pm Tuesday. Breaking waves will be 8 to 12 feet on the Central Coast, 4 to 7 feet on the South Coast, and 8 to 12 feet on the Ventura Coast. Local sets may be slightly higher, but heights overall will decrease Tuesday night. Rip currents will be very strong.

The ridge will move directly over Southern California Wednesday, warming temperatures a couple of degrees. Weak offshore flow will keep skies moslty clear.

On Wednesday night into Thursday, an upper low will move along the border of California and Nevada. Cloud cover will increase, and rain chances are minimal as a weak front moves through. Any overnight rain will likely reach just trace amounts. Northerly winds will pick up some speed.

We are back to mostly sunny conditions Friday and through the weekend. Weak ridging will take over with dry flow. Santa Ana winds will pop up in Ventura County both Friday and Saturday, dying down Sunday. Temperatures will rise 2 to 3 degrees each day Saturday and Sunday, but will stay below normal.
