Saturday Evening Forecast Dec 17th

Staying dry with cool to mild temperatures dominating our region. There are no official watches or warnings for cold temperatures, but wind free areas could easily dip to or even below freezing early Sunday. This is also the type of weather where poor air quality can be produced. The combination of light wind and cold temperatures can lead to pockets of inversion layers which can trap smog, smoke and dust. Portions of the Central Valley and areas to our south have air quality watches in place for Sunday. Look for mostly sunny skies and temperatures on Sunday to be in the 50's and 60's despite starting out in the chilly 30's and 40's.

Looking ahead, a quirky and slow moving area of cloudiness will continue to sit just to our west. We see really no threats for rain as high pressure keeps the needed area of low pressure far away. The clouds will drift across the region from time to time, but should remain at the upper levels only. There is just a very long shot for any sprinkles despite the gray cloud cover. Temperatures should stay fairly cool with a slight warm up toward the middle and second half of next week. Winter Solstice occurs on Wednesday with mostly sunny skies and seasonal temperatures expected. The mild and dry pattern will likely hold in to next weekend which, of course, is Christmas!
