Sunday Evening Forecast May 8th

The winds have definitely arrived as expected. We do see more Wind Advisories and even Warnings posted for much of the region. The weather alerts could last through Tuesday for some areas with gusts possibly up and over 50-mph in the most windy areas. In addition, chilly air to the north will continue to funnel in and keep temperatures below normal for most areas. Look for highs to only reach in to the 50's and 60's with slightly warmer readings for the Santa Barbara South Coast as the direction will allow for some compressional warming as the winds are funneled down slope toward the coast.

Looking ahead, Spring is typically our north to northwest wind season and that's exactly what is setting up forecast wise. Late season storms continue to ride over top of us and that brings the parade of air masses chasing each other with wind being the result. Showers will likely make it as far south as Northern California and we could even see a slight sprinkle or two at times next week. But, north to northwest winds are guaranteed as high pressure chases low pressure across the West Coast. Wind warning and advisories are in through about Monday for now, but could easily be resurrected at any time next week. Temperatures will also take a hit as cold air funnels in from the north. The northerly winds could warm things slightly with some localized down sloping and compressional heating, but most areas will be on the chilly side. By late in the work week, the winds will turn slightly more north easterly and that should warm things as we head in to next weekend.
