Tuesday morning forecast June 15th

Temperatures Tuesday are heating up by the double digits in some areas. The coast will be in the 80s to 90s and interior areas hitting just below 100 degrees.

As the ridge of high pressure expands further west over California, the trough is pivoting north.

A red flag warning will remain in effect on the Santa Barbara County South Coast and mountains until Wednesday at 6:00 am. There is also a wind advisory expiring at 9:00 am Tuesday. Gusty winds will dry out relative humidity, potentially reaching as low as 6 to 12 percent. Hot temperatures and dry fuels combined with wind will elevate fire risk.

An excessive heat warning will last through Friday in the Santa Barbara and Ventura County mountains with temperatures up to 108 degrees. It will also go into effect in the Santa Ynez Valley and Ventura County valleys through Wednesday before downgrading to a watch through Friday.

Likewise, an excessive heat warning will go into effect on the South Coast for only Tuesday, and a watch on the Central Coast for only Wednesday. There is also an excessive heat watch for the San Luis Obispo valleys from Wednesday through Friday.

By Wednesday, the South Coast will cool with stronger onshore flow. However, the heat will reach peak temperatures for the Central Coast at 10 to 20 degrees above normal. Offshore winds will raise fire risk on the Central Coast.

Temperatures will stay hot on Thursday in interior areas, though may start cooling slightly on the coast as the ridge flattens. The cooling trend will continue through the weekend, though Father's Day may still be a couple of degrees above average for great patio weather.
