Wednesday evening forecast – May 5

A broad area of low pressure will approach the west coast Monday night. This will increase onshore flow and bring a deeper marine layer and cooling trend. The weekend will be mild with morning clouds, afternoon sunshine and temperatures running slightly above normal primarily in the mid 60s to mid 70s at the coast and mid 70s to mid 80s inland. Onshore flow will weaken early next week and a slight warming trend will take place.

A shallow but strong inversion coupled with an eddy circulation is making for a tough clearing day at the coast and quite cool with temperatures only in the 60s. A sharp contrast to the valleys which are actually warmer today than yesterday with several areas in the low to mid 90s. Wednesday should be the hottest day inland as gradients start to trend onshore Thursday ahead of the next trough that is just now hitting the Pacific northwest.

Thursday expect 4-8 degrees of cooling bringing most highs back to normal levels. With the cooling aloft associated with the trough and increasing onshore flow the marine layer should deepen through the end of the week with clouds once again pushing into the valleys.

When the trough passes Friday we will see winds pick up on Friday and Saturday. This will bring more sunshine back into the area.

Weather should stay mild over the weekend with temperatures near normal some morning cloud cover and afternoon sunshine.
