Sunday Evening Forecast Oct 4th

Another very warm day as we finish up the first weekend of October. Fortunately, changes are headed our way with cooler weather, coastal fog and hopefully less smoke. For Monday, expect a very warm day inland with some relief expected. Highs will still be well above normal. For coastal areas, fog is trying to move onshore and it will help to cool a few coastal communities, but overall things will still above normal in most areas. Smoke will still be a problem with Air Quality Alerts for sensitive people in San Luis Obispo County as well as portions of Ventura County. Overall, everyone can expect more haze as the winds are fairly mild and that will allow for the smoke to linger. One note about the marine layer is that it could sit very close to the ground. This is because the marine layer is weak and can only drift in at the lowest levels. It also means we could see dense fog and limited visibilities, so be be careful driving.
Looking ahead, the marine layer will day by day rebuild along the coast. Mid and upper level clouds are also expected from Hurricane Marie out in the Pacific. Temperatures for all areas will cool down through much of next week. As the winds begin to shift more from the west, smoke will start to lift and spread farther east. That's good news for us! Pacific storms are starting to form in the Gulf of Alaska and take aim at British Columbia as well as Oregon & Washington. This excellent news for fire fighting efforts as some of this badly needed moisture could even drop south in to portions of California. Our long range forecast computer does see a hint of maybe some sprinkles for Northern and Central California by next Friday.  This is a long shot, but at this point we will welcome any rain chances and keep our hopeful eyes on the forecast for updates!
