Saturday evening forecast Feb 1st.

Absolutely gorgeous and outright warm weather has been the weather story for the past few days. We saw many areas today well up in the 70's and even low 80's! That is going to change abruptly as a Winter storm will sweep over the region on Sunday. Look for a great night with mild temperatures heading in to early Sunday. As the fast storm to our north races by, pressure gradients and chilly air will make for blustery conditions. Highs on Sunday will be in the 60's and even 50's and the wind will be our dominant weather concern. Northwest winds could exceed 50 mph for coastal communities & for some mountain areas, gusts could actually go as high as 80 or 90--mph! Light showers can't be ruled out as well as  few mountain snow showers, but it will be the wind that we watch closely!   Wind Advisories and Warnings are set for just about everyone on Sunday!
Looking ahead, the winds will continue in to Monday before finally backing down. However, the cold air will linger until at least mid week with very cool overnight lows expected and chilly afternoon highs. By the second half of the work week, things should stabilize with a mild offshore flow and gradually warmer temperatures in to next weekend. Unfortunately, despite the quick reminder tomorrow that we are still in Winter, no significant rain systems are yet poised to head our way. Both November and December were very good months for precipitation while January just did not produce. Hopefully the long range will show some improvement as we head toward mid February!
