Saturday evening forecast Dec 28th

After a very chilly morning, most of us saw either normal or slightly below temperatures for this last Sunday of 2019!  Sunday look similar early, but a fast moving and chilly storm system will increase our cloud cover and bring another chance for showers and mountain snow. We should remain dry through most of Sunday with just a slight chance for sprinkles arriving very late. Temperatures on Sunday will once again be very cold in the morning before trying to warm up slowly by around mid day. Again clouds will increase and our next storm system should arrive very early Monday.
This system has some quirks in that it is expected to move quickly from north to south with a decent water trajectory or path.  This is significant in that any slight deviation and things can rapidly change. If the bulk of energy stay more over land, things will be very cold, but less rain/snow will fall.  If more over water, then heavier rainfall is possible.  We will need to monitor closely.  A Winter Storm Watch remains in play for the mountains of Ventura and Santa Barbara. Snow could fall to as as low as 3000-feet with decent accumulations expected above 5000-feet. Hello great ski conditions!!!
We do expect rapid clearing through Monday and in to Tuesday which is good news for holiday plans. With that said, if you are traveling via the highways, pay attention to the Grapevine and Interstate 5!   With the very low snow levels, we could very well see a repeat of the giant mess we all suffered through with the last storm!
High pressure looks to hold through much of the week, meaning that 2020 will start off with dry and sunny conditions.
