SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Andre McCullough sank a free throw with .8 seconds left as San Marcos edged Righetti 74-73 in the season opener for both high school boys basketball teams.

The victory also makes James Kinzler a winner in his varsity head coaching debut for the Royals.

San Marcos led 43-39 at the half.
