Rough night in the CIF SoCal Regionals for most of the boys and girls basketball teams on the Central Coast

Rough night for the local boys and girls basketball teams as the SoCal Regionals got underway.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - One by one the local boys and girls basketball teams were eliminated as round 1 began in the CIF SoCal Regionals.

Righetti, St. Joseph and Nipomo were all the #1 seeds in their respective divisions but all three CIF-Central Section CIF champions lost at home.

After leading 22-14 at halftime Righetti fell to Paloma Valley 57-45 in CIF Division 2-AA.

In that same division, Orcutt Academy lost at home to Eisenhower 64-52.

St. Joseph fell behind to Westlake 19-4 and never recovered as they lost 70-42 in a CIF Division 2-A game.

Nipomo got off to a fast start against Westchester leading 22-8 but the Titans could not sustain it and lost 55-49 in the CIF Division 3-AA.

Paso Robles did win at Louisville 56-35 and will play at the Academy of Our Lady of Peace in a CIF Division 4-A Regional Semifinal.

On the boys side, St. Joseph saw their great season come to a crashing end as they were blown out at Damien High School in La Verne 102-71 in the elite Open Division.

The Knights end up 27-3 and were CIF-Central Section Open Division champions.

Nipomo lost at home to Shalhevet of Los Angeles 63-43 in a CIF Division 3A round 1 game.

Arroyo Grande lost in overtime at home to Pilibos 72-72 in the CIF Division 4-A.

In that same division Rio Mesa was routed on the road 67-41 at Orange Glen.

Atascadero did win its CIF Division 5-AA road game as they beat Calvary Chapel in Santa Ana 64-48.

They play at Sage Creek on Thursday.
