Nipomo loses heartbreaker in CIF title game at Bakersfield Christian

Last second shot does not fall as Nipomo loses in CIF title game at Bakersfield Christian 56-55.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - This time the last second shot did not fall for the Nipomo Titans.

Trailing by one point with four seconds left the Titans got a good inside the lane but could not convert as Bakersfield Christian won 56-55 to capture the CIF-Central Section Division 3 championship in boys basketball.

Nipomo made a furious second half comeback as they trailed by 17 points early in the third quarter but went on a 16-0 run and the game was close throughout the fourth quarter.

Louis DiModica tied the game at 55 with less than a minute to play.

Nipomo had a costly turnover with less than 20 seconds left that led to the decisive free throw by Erick Chaney.

Daren Sosa scored 15 points for Nipomo.

The Titans advanced to the finals on a last second shot in overtime by Joey Garcia to knock off Hoover.
