SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Both Athena Saragoza and Ryan Speshyock know how to deliver an encore performance.

The senior Saragoza was named Female Athlete of the Week at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table weekly luncheon after she recorded back-to-back career highs as she led Santa Barbara High School to two wins last week.

Saragoza scored 36 points versus Santa Ynez and followed that up with 40 points against San Marcos.

The Dons lead the Channel League at 8-0.

Saragoza will play for Regis University in Denver next season.

Dos Pueblos sophomore pitcher Ryan Speshyock was named Male Athlete of the Week.

He has pitched two consecutive complete game wins for the Chargers who pulled within one game of first place in the Channel League behind Santa Barbara and San Marcos.

After striking out a career-high 17 batters against Santa Ynez two weeks ago, the right-handed starter came back last week and pitched a 3-hitter at Santa Barbara with 8 strikeouts in a 3-1 victory.

Speshyock has verbally committed to pitch for Pac-12 school Oregon State.
