San Marcos hoops grinds out win over Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - San Marcos used a strong third quarter to pull ahead of crosstown rival Santa Barbara on Saturday before the Royals hung on for a 49-44 win on the road.

The Royals outscored the Dons 16-8 in the third, with Max Sheldon, Julian Hicks and Thomas Kinzler htting key three-pointers. Shakir Ahmad also asserted himself in the second half and hit crucial free throws down the stretch.

RJ Porter led the Dons with 12 points.

San Marcos improves to 3-3 on the season, while Santa Barbara drops to 1-2.
