Channel League track athletes off and running this spring

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara High School hosted Lompoc and Santa Ynez in a track meet on Saturday, the third at newly-refurbished Peabody Stadium this spring.

The Dons' new home has been busy since high school sports returned, hosting football, lacrosse, soccer and more all at the same time. This is the first year Peabody has hosted track and field meets since 1996.

Dons track and field coach Olivia Perdices was in her first year as an intern at Santa Barbara High School that year. She lauded the new stadium's beauty, and is proud of how her team's season has gone so far.

"They're just happy to be out here doing something, doing what they do and feeling kind of normal and being around a bunch of other kids," Perdices said. "Just having a good time and competing... This is such a cool group of kids that really are totally invested in each other, and want to see every kid out here do well."

Perdices also says several of her runners are stepping up and notching personal records at events this season. She credits their offseason commitment, even with the team unable to gather together due to COVID restrictions.

Santa Barbara outpaced Lompoc and Santa Ynez in most of Saturday's events. The results are available here.
